In the end the 1.5 TB SATA HDD works perfect on a softmodded Xbox. This Seagate is lockable.
But initially there were the following problems. After copying C and E partitions with chimp to this HDD (slave), I admitted Chimp to try to lock the HDD. At first I received a positive message, It said it worked. But right after that when I scanned for IDE Drives in Chimp, it just responded with an error "HDDs not ready for command". Then a message appeared saying that the drive isn't lockable and that trying to lock it failed. Some menu items were deactivated cause of that.
After shutdown and trying to boot from this HDD as "master" (not slave!) it responded with an error 05 (unlocked HDD). So indeed the first try of locking failed. After that once again in Chimp (HDD in slave mode) it also showed me that the drive was still unlocked. So I tried to manually lock it with Chimp this time. AND THAT WORKED. After shutdown and setting the drive to master once again it boots and works perfect. That means that 5900 RPM of this drive is indeed fast enough for booting the standard Xbox BIOS without the need to slow down the boot process.
I still wonder why the first try to lock it didn't work. |
