I saw that a lot of people haven't had much success with this drive but I decided to try it anyway to possibly save myself $20-$60. Not sure what the "proper" way to get this to lock is, but I just ran all the HDD lock methods in the Chimp menu several times. Chimp never reported a status of "locked" but I restarted it anyway. To my surprise, it booted to unleahsedx just as with the old drive except with 68000 some odd megs of free space. The whole installation was easier than I thought it would be.
FTP transfers are about 16-20MB/sec with is better than the 14MB/Sec I was getting before. Weird as I don't even think anything faster than 12.5MB/sec (or 100Megabits/sec) was available when the old Xbox was released.
The drive doesn't make any noticeable noise and it doesn't vibrate as much as the old one. If you're really worried about any heat, just go put your Xbox in the fridge or go mod your Xbox 360 ;) |
